DAT Tapes
DAT is a digital recording format, not analogue like Compact Cassettes.
A DAT cassette contains 3.81 mm magnetic tape inside a compact shell measuring 73 × 54 × 10.5 mm, roughly half the size of a standard audio cassette. They record 16‑bit audio at:
44.1 kHz (CD quality)
48 kHz (studio standard)
32 kHz (long‑play modes)
Because the recording is fully digital, a DAT copy of a digital source is an exact clone, unlike analogue tape or lossy formats such as DCC or MiniDisc.
